6-A-SIDE LEAGUE
EXCLUSIVE COVERAGE OF WEEK 3

Dawn seemed to have dawned rather early on Friday 2nd March, as the players arrived at the Maaref Sports Hall in Rashidiya, vigorously rubbing their soggy eyes as the 3rd week of the Jaffery Sports 6-aside Indoor Football League got underway.

The weariness of what seemed to have been a late night for more or less everybody was almost immediately visible on the field as Eastpac International played out a tiresome 1-1 draw with Afro Trading in the opening game of the day. Both sides coincidentally lost their subsequent games with the same score-line, beaten 2-0 by Universal Clothing and Dynamic Intertrade respectively.

There was however, no shortage of goals to follow as Dynamic Intertrade crushed Zagy Properties 5-0, Mustafa Rashid notching up a hat rick to add to the 2 goals scored by Mohd Reza Hemraj; the final score then again, not doing due justice to Zagy for a determined struggle despite missing a couple of key players to illness.

A further 6 goals were witnessed in the following game which saw Eastern Freight overcome a fighting Tangerine side 4-2, with 5 different players getting their names on the score sheet in the exciting encounter.

Ironically though, the most entertaining match came in the form of a goalless draw played out by favourites Imagio Fashions and Eastern Freight; a game which had it all, bar the goals. Spurred on by a crowd which had unanimously joined voices against the favourites, Eastern Freight demonstrated immense composure against a stubborn Imagio side which had defeated the likes of Universal Clothing 1-0 earlier in the day through a terrific Muhammad Ramzan strike. Although a handful of chances were squandered by both sides in the 0-0 stalemate, the nail biting contest was perhaps the most fitting way to end the day.

With a week’s break up ahead due to religious functions, the next set of fixtures is scheduled for 16th March 2007.
